Social service, non profit, church
The Salvation Army has served the Lima Allen County community since 1888 when Captain Hitchens, his wife and Lieutenant Carter arrived in Lima, and began providing services to those in need. Today, we provide a wide variety of services which include youth programs with the Teen After School Program in which well over 100 Lima Sr. High Students are enrolled. During this free after school and summer day camp program youth are fed a nutritious meal, offered mentoring, literacy and tutoring programs, substance abuse education, and computer tutoring. Other services include family care through programs like food and housing assistance, utility, emergency assistance, and job counseling, as well as visitation and spiritual counseling. The Salvation Army is well past its 100 year anniversary and continues to serve Allen County wherever it sees the need.
