He spent four years at Springfield Catholic Central High School (1981-85) before serving 21 years at Elida High School (1985-2006)\, teaching biology\, chemistry and physical science.\n\n\n\nDuring his high school coaching career\, Adams recorded a 380-189 record. He was named the Western Buckeye League Coach of the Year five times (1987\, 1991\, 1998\, 2003\, 2006)\, the District 8 Coach of the Year twice (1991\, 1998)\, and was the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1998.
